Happiness is an increasingly prominent topic of interest across numerous academic fields. However, the literature can sometimes imply it predominantly a modern concern. Relatedly, critics have argued that contemporary scholarship on happiness Western-centric, yet in so doing appear to suggest mainly Western preoccupation. taking expansive view – defining broadly as desirable mental experience one appreciate versions this phenomenon been humans cultures and throughout history. To articulate perspective, paper offers brief overview 14 different eras, spanning range global regions, each case highlighting concepts concerns bear some close resemblance happiness. In doing, encourages deeper more inclusive understanding vital topic.
